π A City That Forgot Allah
Long ago, in a city ruled by a powerful and cruel king, the people had turned away from Allah. The king forced everyone to worship false gods and idols. Anyone who refused was threatened with imprisonment or death.
But in this city, a group of young men β brave and faithful β believed in Allah with all their hearts. They talked among themselves and said: "Our Lord is the Lord of the heavens and earth. We will never call upon any god besides Him. If we did, we would have said something outrageous!"
These young men refused to bow to idols. They stood up for the truth in a city that had forgotten it. But soon, the king and the people found out β and the young men were in danger!

"Our Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth. We will never call upon any god other than Him..."
β Surah Al-Kahf (18:14)π Running to the Cave
Fearing for their lives, the young men β along with their loyal dog β fled the city and ran to the mountains. They found a cave and went inside, asking Allah to protect them and surround them with His mercy.
They prayed: "Our Lord! Grant us mercy from Yourself and guide us rightly in our affairs!"
And then something miraculous happened. Allah caused a deep, peaceful sleep to come over all of them. They fell asleep inside the cave β and didn't wake up for 309 years!
While they slept, Allah made their bodies turn from side to side so they wouldn't stiffen. And at the entrance of the cave, their dog lay with its paws stretched out β keeping faithful watch! The sun would rise on their right side and set on their left without disturbing them.
If anyone had seen them, they would have been terrified and run away β for Allah had filled them with awe. They looked like they were awake, but they were sleeping!

"And you would think them awake, while they were asleep..."
β Surah Al-Kahf (18:18)π² Waking Up β After 309 Years!
After 309 years, Allah woke them up. They stretched and looked at each other, confused. One of them asked: "How long have we been here?"
Some said: "A day, or part of a day." Others said they couldn't tell. They decided: "Allah knows best how long you have stayed. Now, let's send one of us to the city to buy food β but be careful! If they discover us, they will stone us or force us back to their religion!"
One of them took some coins and went down to the city. When he arrived, everything looked completely different! The buildings, the people, the clothes β all strange. Nobody recognised him. And when he tried to pay with his ancient coins, the shopkeepers were puzzled. "Where did you get these? These are ancient coins from hundreds of years ago!"
Word spread quickly. People came to see the young men. When the whole story came out β that these young men had been sleeping in the cave for centuries β the whole city was amazed. They realised the youth were a sign from Allah proving that there truly is life after death and resurrection!
π The Faithful Dog
One of the sweetest details of this story is the dog. The young men's loyal dog stayed at the entrance of the cave for 309 years, never leaving its masters.
Because of this loyalty and because the dog was in the company of the believers, it is mentioned in the Quran! It is one of only a small number of animals named in the holy book.
This reminds us: when you are in the company of good people doing good things, even you are elevated and remembered. Choose your friends wisely!
π Why Surah Al-Kahf is Special
The story of the People of the Cave is so important that Allah named an entire chapter of the Quran after them β Surah Al-Kahf (Chapter 18).
The Prophet Muhammad ο·Ί taught us to read Surah Al-Kahf every Friday. He said that reading it gives a light (noor) from one Friday to the next, and protects from the fitna (trials) of Dajjal β the greatest test at the end of times.
So every Friday, try to read Surah Al-Kahf β and remember the brave young men who chose Allah over everything!

"Indeed, they were youths who believed in their Lord, and We increased them in guidance."
β Surah Al-Kahf (18:13)π What We Learn from the People of the Cave
Be brave in your faith, even when you stand alone. These young men were surrounded by idol worshippers but refused to give up their belief in Allah.
Good friends lift you up. The dog was honoured just for being with the believers. The people you spend time with affect who you become.
Read Surah Al-Kahf every Friday. The Prophet ο·Ί promised it brings light and protection. Start this beautiful habit today!
Allah always protects those who trust in Him. When the youth ran to the cave saying "Our Lord, have mercy on us!" β He protected them for 309 years!
