👶 A Baby in a Basket
In ancient Egypt, a cruel king called Pharaoh (Fir'awn) ruled with an iron fist. He claimed to be a god and treated the Children of Israel as slaves. Then his fortune-tellers warned him: a boy would soon be born who would take away his kingdom!
Pharaoh ordered that every baby boy born to the Israelites be killed. It was a terrifying time. But when a baby boy was born to a woman of Israel, Allah inspired her heart with a brave plan: "Put him in a basket and place it in the river. Do not fear — We will return him to you!"
She placed baby Musa (Moses) in a basket and let the river carry him. The basket floated all the way to Pharaoh's own palace! Pharaoh's wife found the beautiful baby and immediately loved him. She said to Pharaoh: "This child will be a comfort to me. Do not kill him — perhaps he will benefit us."
And so the very child Pharaoh feared was raised in his own home — fed, clothed, and educated as a prince. Allah's plan was already in motion!
"And We inspired the mother of Moses: 'Nurse him. But when you fear for him, cast him into the river and do not fear...'"
— Surah Al-Qasas (28:7)🌿 The Burning Bush
Musa grew up in the palace but never forgot his people. One day, he accidentally killed an Egyptian man while defending an Israelite, and had to flee Egypt. He travelled far and eventually settled in a land called Madyan, where he married and started a family.
Years later, Musa was travelling with his family through the desert at night when he saw something extraordinary — a fire burning in a bush on the side of a mountain called Tur Sinai. He went closer to warm his family.
Then a voice spoke from the fire: "O Musa! I am Allah, Lord of all the worlds. Remove your sandals — you are in the sacred valley of Tuwa. I have chosen you, so listen to what is revealed."
Musa trembled with awe. Allah spoke directly to him — this was the moment Musa became a prophet! Allah gave him two miracles: his staff could turn into a snake, and his hand could glow with brilliant white light.
"Go to Pharaoh," Allah commanded. "Indeed, he has transgressed all bounds."
🐍 Miracles vs. Magicians
Musa and his brother Harun (Aaron) went before Pharaoh. They said: "We are messengers from the Lord of the Worlds. Let the Children of Israel go with us!"
Pharaoh laughed. "Who is this 'Lord of the Worlds'? I am your lord!" He challenged Musa to a contest — his best magicians against Musa.
On the day of the contest, hundreds of magicians threw their ropes and staffs, which appeared as slithering snakes, filling the ground. The crowd gasped! But Musa threw his staff — and it turned into a massive real snake that swallowed all their fake snakes!
The magicians recognised a real miracle immediately. They fell to the ground in prostration and declared: "We believe in the Lord of Musa and Harun!" Even Pharaoh's best magicians became believers!
But Pharaoh's heart remained hard. He refused to free the Israelites even as Allah sent plague after plague upon Egypt: floods, locusts, lice, frogs, and blood. Each time, Pharaoh begged Musa to remove the punishment and promised to let the people go — but each time, he broke his promise.
🌊 The Sea Splits!
Finally, Allah commanded Musa to lead the Children of Israel out of Egypt at night. Thousands of people followed Musa through the desert toward the sea. Then Pharaoh changed his mind again — he gathered his mighty army and chased after them!
The Israelites reached the sea. Pharaoh's army was closing in behind them. The people panicked: "We are going to be caught!"
But Musa said calmly and firmly: "No! My Lord is with me — He will guide me!"
Allah commanded Musa: "Strike the sea with your staff!" Musa struck the water — and the sea split into two towering walls of water, with a dry path in the middle! The Israelites walked through the sea on dry ground, with walls of water on either side.
Pharaoh and his army charged after them into the path — but when the last Israelite reached the other side, the waters crashed back together, swallowing Pharaoh and his entire army.
As he drowned, Pharaoh cried out: "I believe in the God of the Children of Israel!" But it was too late. And Allah preserved his body as a sign for all generations — and today Pharaoh's mummy can still be seen in a museum in Egypt!
فَأَوْحَيْنَا إِلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ أَنِ اضْرِب بِّعَصَاكَ الْبَحْرَ ۖ فَانفَلَقَ
"So We inspired Moses: 'Strike the sea with your staff.' And it split apart..."
— Surah Al-Shu'ara (26:63)⛰️ The Ten Commandments on Mount Sinai
After crossing the sea, Musa went up to Mount Sinai where Allah spoke to him directly and gave him the Tawrah (Torah) — the holy book with laws and guidance for the Children of Israel.
Allah gave Musa the greatest honour: He was called Kalimullah — the one who spoke with Allah directly!
🌟 What We Learn from Musa's Story
Allah's plan always wins. The baby Pharaoh feared was raised in his own palace. No plan can overpower Allah's plan!
Be brave, not panicked. When the sea was in front and the army behind, Musa said "Allah is with me." Face your fears with faith!
No one is above Allah. Pharaoh said "I am your Lord" — but he drowned. Pride and arrogance lead to destruction.
Don't wait until the last moment. Pharaoh only believed when he was drowning. We should turn to Allah while we still have the chance.
